Now You See Me presents a selection of contemporary artist Thomas J Price’s sculptural work from the last five years, in which he uses cast bronze and aluminium to create fictional, anonymous heads and figures. Price adopts traditional materials and methods and draws on historical precedents, such as Greek and Roman statuary, in order to counter and critique art history by representing people who have not commonly been seen in portraiture. These sculptural works invite viewers to question the ways in which black men have been represented in art and contemporary culture. In his words, Price seeks to subvert stereotypical representations in depicting his subjects  ‘not being heroic, not being a type, not being recorded as some sort of ethnicity’.
