Price’s photographic series‭ ‬‘Marble Draft’‭, sets out to explore various ongoing themes‭ ‬connected to classical sculpture‭, ‬provenance and how differing‭ ‬narratives can be implied from the same materials‭. ‬These images‭ ‬of hands holding books are arranged into indexed grids above‭ ‬lists of proposed titles‭, ‬each corresponding to the numbered‭ ‬images‭. ‬The inclusion of the hands serves to pull the old books‭ ‬and their classical sculptures into the contemporary‭, ‬whilst‭ ‬inserting a new cultural reference that jars with any imagined‭ ‬histories of the classical subject‭.‬

The autobiographical presence of Price in the photographs of classical sculptures, while constituting a questioning of power is, at the same, a reconfiguration of it. In every image in the Marble Draft Series, Price literally inserts himself into the narrative of western art. And with this relational act, so Price raises the issue of how the rewriting of art history is to be handled.
